Bibi Fatimah (s.a)

By S.Muslim Hassan Zaidi
7th May 2011, Saturday,
03 Jamadi-US-SANI 1432 A.H

Bibi Fatimah (s.a)

Bibi Fatimah Zehra (sa), Her name alone is enough to make a heart weep.  The Shinning one (AZ-Zehra) the chaste and pure one (Batool), Fatimah (S.A) is amongst the four purest and the greatest women of the universe (i.e. Bibi Marium, Bibi Asiya, Bibi Khadija, and Fatimah). Daughter of the leader of the world, Leader of Paradise, Leader of all Prophets. She was the only akin daughter of Last Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h). Khadija Al-Kubra(s.a) (means Khadija the great), Mother of the Queen of the worlds, was said to have neither believed in nor  worshipped idols, which was atypical for  pre-Islam Arabian  culture.
She was nursed by her mother Lady Khadija (s.a) contrary to the local customs which was to send newborn to wet nurses in surrounding villages. This was one of the main proofs behind her purity and modesty that She was under the supervision of the leader of all Prophets and Lady Khadija Al-Kubra (s.a) from Her birth day.
Following the death of her mother, Bibi Fatimah (sa) was occupied by sorrow and found it very difficult to come to terms of her mother’s death. She was consoled by her father who informed her that he had received words from angel  Gabriel that God has built a palace in paradise for Bibi Khadija.

Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) and Fatima (s.a)

The Love of Prophet (p.b.u.h) towards the Queen (s.a) can be described by Prophet (p.b.u.h):-

Narrated Al-Miswar bin Makhrama: Allah"s Apostle said, "Fatima is a part of me, and he who makes her angry, makes me angry."

Sahih Bukhari 5.61
The Prophet (s) said, "The most beloved of my family to me is Fatima."
Al-Jami" al-Sagheer, v. 1, #203, p. 37; , Al-Sawaiq Al-Muhariqa, p. 191; .  Yanabi" Al-Mawadda, v. 2, ch. 59, p. 479;,Kenz Al-Omal, v. 13, p. 93.
Pureness of Bibi Fatima (s.a) is described by Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h) with His words:
The Prophet (s) said, "The first people to enter Paradise will be Ali and Fatima."
Nur Al-Absar, p. 52; , related by similar wording in Kenz Al-Omal, v. 13, p. 95.

There are many hadiths on different occasions by which the Shinning one (AZ-Zehra) (s.a) is considered to be the dearest to our Prophet (p.b.u.h). Her love towards Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h) is described by her act:
Narrated by `Abdullah: While the Prophet was prostrating,
surrounded by some of Quraish, `Uqba bin Abi Muait brought the intestines (i.e. Abdominal contents) of a camel and put them over the back of the Prophet. The Prophet did not raise his head, (till) Fatima, came and took it off his back and cursed the one who had done the harm. The Prophet said, "O Allah! Destroy the chiefs of Quraish, Abu Jahl bin Hisham, `Utba bin Rabi`al, Shaba bin Rabi`a, Umaiya bin Khalaf or Ubai bin Khalaf." (The sub-narrator Shu`ba, is not sure of the last name.) I saw these people killed on the day of Badr battle and thrown in the well except Umaiya or Ubai whose body parts were mutilated but he was not thrown in the well.

Sahih Bukhari 5.193

At the time of battle she used to go with Her Father (pbuh) and used to alleviate the injured:

Narrated Abu Hazim: That he heard Sahl bin Sa`d being asked about the wounds of Allah`s Apostle saying, "By Allah, I know who washed the wounds of Allah`s Apostle and who poured water (for washing them), and with what he was treated." Sahl added, "Fatima, the daughter of Allah`s Apostle used to wash the wounds, and `Ali bin Abi Talib used to pour water from a shield. When Fatima saw that the water aggravated the bleeding, she took a piece of a mat, burnt it, and inserted its ashes into the wound so that the blood was congealed (and bleeding stopped). His canine tooth got broken on that day, and face was wounded, and his helmet was broken on his head."

Sahih Bukhari 5.402

Fatima (s.a) And Her Nature

Fatima (s.a) in the eyes of holy Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h)
Narrated `Aisha:
Once Fatima came walking and her gait resembled the gait of the Prophet . The Prophet said, "Welcome, O my daughter!" Then he made her sit on his right or on his left side…

                                                 Sahih Bukhari 4.819

Bibi Fatima (s.a) didn’t possess the nature to attach towards the worldly life. She used to spend her time with her mother. From her early adolescence, Bibi Fatima (sa) didn’t like to talk unnecessary with any stranger.

Married Life of Fatima Bint-e-Muhammad (s.a)

Baz`at ar-Rasoul (Part of the Prophet (pbuh)), the pure one, was married with the father of dust, Loin of Allah, Ali ibn-e-abi Talib(a.s), who was also Prophet’s cousin. Her married life is the model of the best couple and an example for the world. Imam Ali (a.s) was responsible for earning the living while she used to do all the household work from the very first day of her marriage. She used to get blisters in her hands but never gave up. After some time, Hazrat Ali (a.s) purchased a servant but the workload was not wholly shifted hence was distributed amongst them…
She also enjoyed very cordial relations with her mother-in-law, Fatema bint Asad (SA), the lady who had brought up Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) when he was young as a son and to whose care the Prophet had entrusted Hazrat Fatema (SA) after Hazrat Khadija`s (SA) death. She never allowed her mother-in-law to trouble herself with household chores and left to her the social relations for keeping the necessary contact with family members and friends.
Imam Hassan (a.s) and Imam Husain (a.s), who are the prince of paradise, the first and the second Imam of the universe, who were martyred by so called Muslims, are the only sons of the leader of women in the worlds. She was blessed with another son Mohsin Who died in infancy by an attack by Abu Bakar and Umar’s men soon after the death of Allah’s apostle (p.b.u.h) when abu bakr, umar and usman were fighting for the caliphate, when they entered in Bibi’s house forcedly by burning the gate of Masooma’s House…
Her daughter’s includes Zanab-e-Zainab (s.a)(who was the great figure of sacrifice and strength) and um-me-Kulsum (s.a) (fourth child of Fatima bint-e-Mohammad (s.a)).

Hadess-e-kissa

A narration attributed to Aisha reports:  that Allah`s Apostle (may peace be upon him) went out one morning wearing a striped cloak of the black camel`s hair that there came Hasan b. `Ali. He wrapped him under it, then came Husain and he wrapped him under it along with the other one (Hasan). Then came Fatima and he took her under it, then came `Ali and he also took him under it and then said: Allah only desires to take away any uncleanliness from you, O people of the household, and purify you (thorough purifying)"
Sahih Muslim

Conversation of Prophet Muhammad (p.
(p.b.u.h) b.u.h) with angel about the cloak which Holy Prophet ( P.b.u.h) use to wear, the occasion on which Allah reveled on Prophet (p.b.u.h) for the purest and most dearer to Allah, the occasion on which Allah’s apostle (p.b.u.h) asked permission to enter His family, to enter the best people under his cloak to prove the world about the Ahl-e-Bait, the Punjatan-a-Pak.
Ahle al--Kissa (the people of cloak) includes Prophet (p.b.u.h), His Daughter Fatima bint-e-Muhammad (s.a), his cousin and son-in-law Imam Ali ibn-e-Abi Talib (a.s), His two grandsons, Imam Hassan (as) and Imam Husain (a.s)
Bibi Fatima (s.a) was the only lady who was under the cloak and no other lady was allowed to enter the cloak in fact there were many other people in the house including Holy Prophet’s wives as well.

Death of the Queen of Paradise (s.a)

Soon after the death of her father, before she was able to overcome the grief of losing her father, some so called Muslims who were busy fighting over caliphate rushed into her house to imprison the loin of Allah, they caused Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h) pain by causing His loving daughter pain and giving her wounds. That was the horrible day when Queen of Paradise was pressed in between the huge gate and the wall, which broke her rib bones, by some non believers , who after throwing fire inside Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h)’s daughter’s house , killed Bibi Fatima (s.a)’s infant son Hazrat Mohsin, imprisoned Imam Ali (a.s), and threatened grandchildren of Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h)
The reason given by them for this act was to force Imam Ali (a.s) to take an oath about the caliphate of Abu Bakar. Their actions are enough to define the nature and the thoughts of these people and their fictitious devotion towards Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h).
This incident weakened Bibi Fatimah (sa) day by day , and that was the reason for the Sinless, Allah’s apostle’s daughter (s.a)’s death.  She survived only a few days after this incident and at last, on 3rd Jamad-us-Sani  11 A.H (632), 6 months after Prophet (p.b.u.h)’s death, Bibi Fatima (sa)’s holy soul left her body…..

The Last Day of Fatima (s.a) The shining one.

The Morning came which Bibi Fatima (sa) knew was her last day as told by Rasool-e-Khuda(p.b.u.h) in her dream.  She cooked food for her children and instructed her kaneez to give them meal before informing about her death.
She then went in her prayer room; she used to speak loud in some parts and then there was silence…..
After the death when Imam Hassan (a.s) and Imam Husain (s.a) entered the house kaneez ask them to have meal but they replied that they use to eat with her mother and so the kaneez was obligated to inform them about their Mother’s death.
They instantly went towards her and with the distress they spent some time with their mother, with the mother of all Imams.
Then Hazrat Ali (a.s) was informed about his wife’s death, He then entered house and prepared for the last rites for her and say the last prayer of her and so buried her in Jannat-ul-baqi in the darkness of night.
When Imam Ali (a.s) was giving her last wash her cried loud as he saw the wounds on her chest and broken ribs.

Last conversation of the best couple

When the last day came, Imam Ali (a.s) and Bibi Sayeda (s.a) spent some time together and so their conversation as according to Nahj-ul-Balagha is as follows:
Ali! You also know that this is the last day of my life,
I’m happy and also I’m sad,
Happy that my troubles will shortly be over and I shall meet my father, and I’m sorry to part you,
Please Ali! Make a note of what I say and do as I wish you to do,
After me you may marry anybody you like, but you must marry my cousin yamama, she loves my children and Husain is very much attached to her,
Let fizza remain with you even after her marriage, if she so desires, she was more than a mere servant to me. I loved her like my daughter,
Ali! Bury me in the night and do not let those who have been so cruel to me attend my burial,
Let my death not dishearten you, you have to serve Islam, and humanity for a long time to come,
Let not my sufferings embitter your life, promise me Ali.
Imam Ali (a.s) says; Yes Fatima I promise.
Lady Fatima continued…
Ali, I know how you love my children but be very careful to Husain, he love me dearly, and he will miss me sadly, be a mother to him,
Till my recent illness he used to sleep on my chest, He is already missing it
Do not weep Ali! I know with a rough outward appearance, what tender heart you possess,
You have already borne too much and will have to bear more,
Farewell Ali! Say good bye to me…

Imam Ali (a.s) At Her Grave

O Prophet of God! Please accept my Salaams and those of your daughter who is being buried not far from you, and who is to meet you so quickly. O the chosen Messenger! The death of your dear daughter has left me without patience and solace. I have lost my self-restrain and power of endurance.
After having endured the separation from you I shall have to bear this catastrophe patiently O
Prophet of God! I laid you down in the grave with my own hands, your soul departed from your body while you were resting upon my breast and your head was lying between my neck and my heart.

“Surely we belong to Allah and towards Him is our return.” (2:156)

Your trust (Your daughter) which was entrusted to me is taken back from me. Sorrow now lives with me and happiness has taken leave. This grief in so overbearing that it engulfs and swallows other sorrows, and it has left me with sleepless night and joyless days. From now onwards my life will be continued heartache till God gathers me with you both in the realm of His Favor and Peace.
O messenger of God! Your dear daughter will tell you how your followers have behaved with her and how they have ill-treated her. Ask her the detail of what all has happened to her during such a short period (barely three months) after your departure to Heaven. This period for separation from you was so short that people still remember you and were still talking about you.
Please both of you accept my parting salaams and goodbye.
It is the wish of a sincere heart which loved and always love you both, a heart which will cherish and will carry your tender and loving memories to its grave. Goodbye O daughter of the chosen messenger of God! May you rest in peace which humankind denied you in this world.
If I leave your grave to go to my place, it is not because I am tired of your company. I wish I had it to the end of my life. And if I make a permanent home on your grave it will not be because I doubt the reward that God has reserved for those who bear sorrows patiently. Goodbye! May God’s peace and blessing be with you.
(Sermon 207 of Nahjul Balagha)
