Shaheed Foundation Pakistan extends heartfelt condolences to Imam-e-Zaman (a.t.f.s) , Maraj-e-een-e-Ezam, Ulema-e-Karam , Momineen o Mominaat and Muslimin o Muslimaat on the Shahadat Anniversary of this Mazloom Shaheed from the lineage of Prophet Muhammad PBUH who stood up for Islam and lived up to its golden traditions.
The land of Pakistan has a unique honour and privilege to have been blessed with the gracious presence of a large number of revered and holy personalities from the lineage of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar ,Shah Hussain ,Barri Imam ,Abdullaah Shah Sahabi and numerous others personalities of high piety and noble character chose the areas now comprising Pakistan to spread the message of Hussainiat and for propagation of the teachings of Holy Maasoomeen (AS).
Abdullaah Shah Ghazi is one such revered personality who is not only very close to a Holy Masoom lineage wise (he is the fourth descendent of Imam Hasan (AS) and his tree is as follows: Abdullaah Al-Ashtar Ibn-e-Mohammad Nafs-e-Zakayya Ibn-e-Abdullaah Al-Mahaz - Ibn-e-Hasan Al-Muthanna Ibne Imam Hasan (AS).
He is the grand son of Abdullaah al Mahaz.
Abdullaah al- Mahaz s maternal grandfather was Imam Hussain (AS)
Abdullaah al-Mahazs paternal grandfather was Imam Hasan (AS)
Abdullaah al- Mahazs mother was Bibi Fatima Sughra binte Imam Hussain AS.
Abdullaah al -Mahazs father was Hazrat Hasan Muthanna Ibn-e-Imam Hasan (AS)
Abdullaah al-Ashtar was born in 98 Hijra (716 AD) in Madina-tu-Rrasool (SAWW).
In 138 Hijra , Abdullaah al-Ashtar undertook a perilous journey by sea to reach Sindh.
Like some other areas Sindh too was under the dominion of so-called muslim rulers of Abbasid dynasty.
When Syed arrived in Sindh , the area was under the governorship of one Omar Ibn Hafs who was the hand-picked man of Mansoor Abbasi.
Abdullaah Al-Ashtar was among the most wanted men during the reign of Mansoor Abbasi. Hence it was a great challenge for him to preach the message of Hussainiyat in Sindh- an area under the rulership of Abbasids.
However Syed entered Sind as a merchant of horses so that he raises no eyebrows and continued his mission in this guise for a while.
He met the governor , Omar , who also had a considerable love and respect for Ahl-e-Bayt AS unlike other representatives of a normal Abbasid setup. Omar extended great facilitation to Syed and when he formally started preaching Omar also did Syed s Baiyaat.
When he started formal propagation the fertile land of Sindh started to produce devout disciples of Syed filled with the love of Ahlul Bayt (AS) - Something which could be testified even to this date.
In the mean time it was 145 Hijra when Syed learnt that back home in Madina his revered father Hazrat Mohammad Nafs-e-Zakayya Ibne Abdullaah Al- Mahaz has been martyred for raising his voice against the tyranny and for launching a movement against the cursed regime of Abbasid dynasty. Syed s uncle , Ibrahim Ibn-e-Abdullaah Al-Mahaz was also martyred in Basra in the backdrop of same movement.
Now syed became much alarmed and so did the respecting governor Omar Al Hafs. Omar advised Syed to move to one of the Hindu Rajas having his small rulership in one of the frontier(boundary) regions of Sindh. This raja had a special love for Ahlul Bayt AS. Syed ,did early written correspondence with the Raja ,after which Raja invited him over and treated him as princes ,taking care of him very well.
This shows that not only common muslims but hindus of Sindh too ,revered Saadat very much . This raja repeated the history of raja Dahir ,who took the wrath of Ommayyads for protecting Saadat and for denying to hand them over to Ommayyads.
Although Omar ibne Hafs felt contented that the arrangement would work fine ,somehow , Mansoor Abbasi learnt of something going wrong somewhere. He demanded of the governor to either hand over Abdullaah Ashtar to him alive or kill him and send his head to Mansoor in Baghdad.
When mansoor couldnt get any result of his liking he , axed Omar Ibn-e-Hafs and sent him to Africa.
In 146 Hijra hasham was sent to Sind as governor on behalf of Mansoor. The same demand was made by Mansoor to Hasham.
In the meantime Syed continued his services to Islam un-hindered ,many people belonging to Zaidiyaah sect also became devotees of Syed ,inspired by his character.
Hasham called on the Hindu raja and put forth the demand regarding Abdullaah al-Ashtar ,but Raja plainly refused.
Since Hasham himself had considerable fear of the family of Prophet (PBUH) ,he wanted to find an excuse so that ,he may not have to committ a grave sin by handing over this revered personality or killing him.
So it was deliberately propagated by him that discussions and dialogue for getting hold of Abdullaah al-Ashtar are under way and Caliph was also updated with the same information.
But one Safeeh Ibne Amrv who was a special loyal to Mansoor Abbasi learnt and attacked Syed Abdullaah Al-Ashtar along with his army.
Abdullaaah Ashtar was a brave men ,a descendant of Imam Hasan and a flag bearer of the golden traditions of Karbala. He and his companions chose to fight the attacking army. Out-numbered, he preferred to fight rather than submitting and it is because of this display of valor he was given the title of "Ghazi" meaning "victorious".
Ali Hussain Rizvi writes in Tareekh-e-Shiyaan-e-Ali that Abdullaah fought really bravely. One after the other his companions ,embraced Shahadat . Similarly Abdullaah Al-Ashtar attained innumerable injuries and fell down from his source . His companions hid him under their own bodies so that his head may not be cut and may not be sent over to Baghdad. The plan worked well . His body was never recognized . Afterwards some native Sindhis who had recently embraced Islam took pains and the bodies were all flown in the Sea.
The Mazaar of Syed in Clifton reminds of the sacrifice offered by yet another generation of Saadat and speaks volumes of the bravery of the noble Syed and his noble companions who embraced Shahadat alongside him.
Every year his URS is commemorated during the days of his Shahadat from 20th to 22nd Zilhajj in which devotees from all over the countries participate. According to one tradition it was the year 773 AD when he embraced Shahadat.
Last year many devotees embraced Shahadat when yazidi terrorists attacked the devotees on the eve of URS. Likewise this year too , a near suicide attempt has been foiled the vicinity of Syeds Mausoleum only yesterday when his URS traditions were beginning to get underway.
There are a countless numbers of karaamaat and miracles associated with him . The most obvious is a sweet water fountain (chashma). The Shrine of Syed in Clifton Karachi is dated back to 1400 years ago . A well-known and most oft repeated thing seen by most people living in this southern town of Pakistan ,many times during their lifetimes, is that the worst cyclones, which are expected to hit this coastal city of Karachi die down miraculously before ever hitting and its historically said that karachi never had a tropical disaster in a thousand year because of the shrines blessing.
His brother Syed Misri Shah is also said to have been buried along the southern coastal line of Pakistan.
Prophet PBUH said:
" Jisne meri aulad mein kisi ki ziyarat ki mein qayamat mein uski ziyarat karunga aur tanha na chorhun ga "
Whoseover visited any one from my descendants , I shall visit him on Qiyamah and will not leave him alone.
It is greatly desirable for Millat-e-Jaffaria Pakistan to carry out organized and detailed research on the revered personalities of this area as they are our religious stalwarts and noble ancestors and it is the greatest binding on us to recognize their sincere services and let everybody know of the true message of Islam. It is a right (haq) of these personalities on us that at least we should offer to them pursa of their Masoomeen ancestors by visiting them during our days of mourning i.e
Shahadat Anniversaries of Masoomeen (AS).
Maqdoor ho to khaak se poochun ke ay layeem
