On the 7th Muharram 61 Hijra, the Commander of Yazid`s forces received orders to cut off all sources of supplies to Imam Hussain`s camp. He was given strict orders not to allow even a drop of water to reach any of the inmates of Imam`s camp.
It can be well imagined than described, what the condition of Imam Hussain`s camp would have been in these circumstances under the scorching Arabian sun. The camp was in the midst of the burning desert, with the heat-waves blowing from all sides. The unavailability of water, with nothing to feed even the young children. Even the infants were left wriggling for their mother`s milk, who were themselves suffering from the killing thirst. What a torturous situation it must be and how did those Holy ones suffer all these unbearable tortures. The people for whom the fountains of Kauthar and Erum were created were made to long for even a drop of water for their kids and women. It is very difficult for any human mind to conceive, but all these are facts which the Holy Imam and his Godly companions suffered with wonderful fortitude and patience.
Over and above all these tortures, the sight of the enemy forces was before the ladies and the children in the besieged camp. They could see the enemy preparing for the brutal massacre of their fathers, sons and brothers.
This was the time when Hur was immensely remembering the time when Imam Hussain gave away his water when Hur and his men needed it. He asked Umar Ibne Saad to give water to Imam Hussain`s camp or at least to the crying children, but he showed no sign of pity and humanity.
After these events, the start of the battle was anticipated any moment.
